Pawpaw Tree bare root

from $12.00

Pawpaw trees - bare root seedlings from wild American Pawpaws.

2.5 years old seeded September of 2022  average 12-18” total height

3.5 year old seeded September 2021            Average 18-24” total height

These beautiful native trees are easy to grow, and yield a bounty of tropical like fruit with flavors of banana, pineapple, and mango.  North America’s largest native fruit, its dark tropical leaves add diversity to the landscape and are the obligate host tree for the zebra swallow tail butterfly.  Plants should be planted 8-20’ apart for best pollination.  They prefer part shade when young, but like full sun as they reach full size to achieve best fruiting. There are many great videos showing different techniques to accomplish this goal.

We recommend fertilizing with a quality organic slow release fertilizer according to the directions on the fertilizer.  They love compost, fish, and a mulch layer to help protect from drought

Most pawpaws begin waking up in their pots in May, but some as early as April, and some not until well into June. Be patient.

Note: minimum of 2 plants are required for pollination, pawpaws are pollinated by flies and beetles

We will make every effort to combine shipping, and we will refund any difference.
